Locks & Larceny
A downloadable alpha prototype for Windows and Linux
Welcome to the Somewhat Playable™ Update!
After months of working, it's time to finally upload something that might just have a grain of fun in it!
I've completed several refactors of many systems and am finally in a position to begin composing a form of gameplay out of it. What you see here is the beginning point of a lot of very open ended systems, only some of which are actually 100% up and running, or otherwise simply not embellished. The idea will be to provide sandbox-style levels to explore and solve in your own ways. For now, everything is very barebones and very inclined to breakage, but it's time to start sharing what's here.
I'm going to be continuing to update the game over here on Itch until I am completely satisfied with the introductory level from a mechanics and design perspective. Right now there are still glaring issues with the NPC vision and hearing, which will be my top priority before adding more items to steal, things to interact with, and generally focusing on content for the game rather than additional baseline features.
Follow the story of a man who has chosen a life of unconventional procurement to make ends meet. Picking locks, hiding in the shadows, and uncovering secrets. What stories are held in these seemingly odd jobs. What answers await hidden, in the dark?
Master The Lockpick
As you may have guessed, becoming a master of the game's various locks will be a part of this journey. Each will have its patterns, and it is up to you to choose brute force, or a deft hand. You'll find each lock has its quirks, and with attention, and a little luck, you'll be an expert.
Become One With The Shadows
What might seem like an easy job may have more to it, so utilizing stealth will be your best bet. Moving loud and fast will draw attention from residents and other curious sorts. Moving slow and careful will avoid this risk, but increases your chances of getting caught by cameras or patrols. Strike a healthy balance and don't get caught!
Watch Out For Them.
Every mistake feels like poking a wasp's nest. Hide when you need to. Run when you must. Just don't think you can leave without getting what you've been sent for. Be careful what you look into, as you may find curiosity is a two-way street.

Install instructions
Extract .zip file and run the LocksAndLarceny.exe file (a build straight from the Unity engine for windows)
The initial builds have shown to be stable using Wine on Linux, so I've marked it as Linux compatible as well!
